The purpose of this creative project is to make an E-Book that promotes time management for college students in a way that interests them. The author of this recognizes that there are many distractions to keep college students from sitting down and reading a textbook; that is why an E-Book featuring videos and interactive videos was chosen. The research questions presented below began my research and understanding of the topic. These questions are as follows: 1. What is a way to promote time management for college students? a) What are some mediums that will appeal to young people who want to do more than just read a book. 2. When figuring out how to manage their time, what are the areas of life students consider to be most important? 3. What perspectives to various facets of the world like, business, academia and the foreign community think about time management? 4. What perspective to millennials have on time management? By answering these questions above, the author hopes to understand what is good time management, and how to explore it in a way that will interest young people. The author is doing so by creating a series of narrative videos that he himself acted in portraying a fictitious student both engaging in and not practicing good time management techniques. The created nine videos, with three dedicated to a section each. The three sections were what students do wrong, how they can improve and how they can maintain their success. Within each section were three sub- sections that students must use time management skills for: mental techniques, physical well-being, and juggling work and personal commitments. See the attached documents (Appendix A) for a full collection of the scripts that were created for these videos. The author also created quizzes through the website Bookry, allowing him to make review questions for those reading the book. The quizzes were then made into widgets and inserted into the book. Each quiz was about 5 questions each and was at the end of each of the sub-sections, meaning there were 45 questions total. See the attached documents (Appendix B) for screenshots of each quiz question and the correct answer.

There's a growing trend of transparency in the media that has been reflected in the Society of Professional Journalists' Code of Ethics. SPJ advocates that journalists "explain ethical choices and processes to the audience" and "expose unethical conduct." Transparency currently means taking responsibility for your work and not allowing yourself to be compromised by conflicts of interest. It doesn't usually mean being open about your beliefs, positions and perspectives. We would argue that it could, and should. There are many examples of publications making mistakes because they lacked the knowledge and understanding of someone from a different perspective. Additionally, there are many examples of journalists lacking in information because they were trying to remain objective. There should be a place where journalists can be open about where they are coming from and give their perspective on a situation. Using many different perspectives we can build a bigger, and more accurate, picture around the context of a situation. This thesis project examines objectivity and proposes a new philosophical approach based on Situated Knowledges by Donna Haraway. We examine media case studies to expose issues with the coverage of news when objectivity is the main goal.

Humor, Religion and Social Media: The 2015 Paris Attacks and Freedom of Expression

A combined examination of the Charlie Hebdo attacks on January 7, 2015 and the November 13, 2015 attacks in Paris yields a social media movement that evolved within the 10 months between the attacks, a comparison between these terrorist attacks and those of September 11, 2001 and parallels between American First Amendment principles and France’s free expression laws.

The Charlie Hebdo attacks fueled an online debate over freedom of expression and religion, whereas the purpose of social media evolved into a humanitarian one following the November 13 attacks in Paris. This research looks into the individual evolutions of the related hashtags that surfaced in 2015, including #JeSuisCharlie (and its opposites, such as #JeNeSuisPasCharlie), #DonDuSang, #PorteOuverte and #RechercheParis, among others. Another research point was with the September 11 attacks—with the 9/11 attacks against the United States, few to no channels were available for the kind of immediate discussions and support seen after the Paris attacks. After spending time in Paris during the spring 2015 semester and researching the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo attacks and the history of the publication, the conclusion rests on the idea that the online discussions perpetuated by both supporters and dissenters of the magazine contribute to a more robust, open democracy supported by these social media platforms.

A portion of this thesis also delves into the parallels and differences between the American First Amendment and the French free speech laws—all of which pertain to the Charlie Hebdo content and the online responses to the 2015 Paris attacks.

The interviews conducted include a French art history professor at the Sorbonne University in Paris, two creators of the “Je Suis Charlie” Facebook page, an American journalist living in Paris who covered the Charlie Hebdo attack and who was present during the November attacks, and a Muslim-American doctor in Phoenix who founded the American Islamic Forum for Democracy. The ideas surrounding free speech, the value of art such as that found within the pages of Charlie Hebdo, the media’s treatment of religion, traditional democratic freedoms and ties to social media revolutions are all components of this research thesis.
