Type one diabetes is a complex disease and may affect physical and mental health. These mental health effects include the impacts of stigma which may result from misconceptions. Physical health effects may include not following diabetes self-management behaviors, which increases the risk of short-term hypoglycemia complications and long-term hyperglycemia complications. This online study investigated how stigma affects type one diabetes self-management behaviors. This study sample was adults aged 18 years or older with type one diabetes. These participants were recruited from online social media platforms including Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, and LinkedIn accounts. Quantitative data was collected through an online survey and qualitative data was collected through an online interview. Results show that misunderstanding type one diabetes is a major factor that results in social stigma behaviors. As a result, the majority of adults with type one diabetes experience internal stigma and affected self-management behaviors to a certain extent, depending on the amount of support, education, and experience the individual has.

This thesis project was inspired by healthcare disparities between rural and urban communities. This topic was operationalized in this paper through a comparison of dental care access in rural and urban areas of both Panama and Arizona. The significance and origin of the research were first introduced, followed by a literature review to establish baseline care access information in each of the locations. The methods of the research conducted include on-site observational data collection as well as patient interviews and conversations summarized by thematic analysis. Data showed different primary barriers to care in each location with an emphasis on geographic and policy variables. The results were discussed in terms of the factors identified as contributing to the disparities in access between the rural and urban communities in each location, and further, through a comparison of these disparities and their root causes, between Panama and Arizona. Recommendations were detailed for steps to continue this study and expand its scope, as well as suggested measures to minimize the access disparities faced by rural communities.

Antibiotic resistance is a growing crisis across the globe. With the use of antibiotics in heathcare settings in an ever-growing population, the growth of antibiotic resistance has been named a top 10 global public health threat by the World Health Organization. Through an analysis of 6 countries; Mexico, China, the United States, India, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia, I look at the current implementation of policy and contributing factors to the use and abuse of antibiotics within the country. Through my research, I was able to find knowledge, behaviors, and a lack of enforcement to be the main contributors to the growing antibiotic crisis. Based on the evidence, I suggested three policies that focused on treatment, prevention, or economic assistance in an effort to combat the antibiotic crisis on a global scale. With socio-economic factors in mind as well as sustainability of policy, the evidence pointed in the direction of a three-pronged approach on prevention with education, policy enforcement, and a global database to minimize the growth of antibiotic resistance as well as improve public health at a global level.

This analysis will be focused on determining the previous adaptiveness of these hospitals and how they became and can become more adaptable in order to effectively handle the next global crisis that we will face. The essay will first examine some of the underlying issues that existed within healthcare institutions immediately prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. After this, it will next observe some of the general challenges posed by the circumstances of the pandemic, followed by an exploration of what changes took place within hospitals in order to combat these challenges. After this the essay will provide an analysis of the effectiveness of these changes. Lastly, the essay will give recommendations on how international healthcare facilities can take broad steps to be better prepared for the next global health crisis.
